To Attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Ethiopia, President Boakai departs Liberia.

Monroria, Liberia – In order to participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which is set for February 14–15, 2026, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., left Monrovia for Addis Ababa.

The high-level summit will bring together African leaders at the Nelson Mandela Hall of the Addis International Convention Center for a State Dinner hosted by Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed. The purpose of the dinner is to discuss important continental priorities, such as peace and security, institutional reforms of the African Union, Africa’s participation in the G20, Agenda 2063, food security under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), climate action, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The UN Secretary-General, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and other notable foreign partners will also make speeches during the Opening Ceremony. The presentation of the AU Assembly’s 2026 theme and the transfer of the African Union’s chairpersonship will also take place at the Assembly.

The Summit’s main focus will be on “Ensuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

Liberia’s dedication to multilateral diplomacy, regional peace and security, democratic governance, economic integration, and sustainable development throughout the African continent will be reflected in President Boakai’s engagement.

The Liberian leader is anticipated to hold bilateral discussions with other heads of state and government as well as important allies on topics of shared interest, including as regional cooperation, peacebuilding, youth and women’s empowerment, and Liberia’s development priorities.
