Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks Tuesday September 2, 2026 at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo, vowing to deepen cooperation as the two countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.
During the discussion, President Xi noted that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1956.
“The past seven decades of shared journey through wind and rain has fostered and witnessed the salient features of China-Egypt relations: equality and mutual trust, friendship and mutual learning, solidarity and mutual support, and cooperation for win-win outcomes,” Xi said.
He said the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership has seen “leapfrog development” in recent years and called for building a “China-Egypt community with a shared future.”
President Xi outlined five priorities for the next phase of relations: Political trust, Maintain high-level exchanges and strengthen exchanges on governance experience, Economic cooperation*: Align development strategies and expand cooperation in infrastructure, electricity, agriculture, and telecoms, while pursuing new areas like green energy, electric vehicles, aerospace, the digital economy, and modern agriculture, People-to-people exchanges: Expand cooperation in culture, education, health, science, and sports, and increase travel between the two peoples, Security cooperation: Combat transnational crime, deepen anti-corruption cooperation, and support each other’s counterterrorism efforts, Multilateral coordination: Work closely at the UN, BRICS, China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, and Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to oppose unilateralism and promote a more just global governance system.
On the situation in the Middle East, Xi proposed four principles for regional security noting that regional countries lead their own affairs, pursue comprehensive solutions with the Palestinian question at the core, link security to development including safeguarding shipping lanes, and uphold the UN Charter and international law.
President El-Sisi in response welcome President Xi for the historic visit and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the one-China principle. He said bilateral cooperation has produced “fruitful outcomes” and that Cairo is ready to deepen ties in trade, investment, manufacturing, infrastructure, finance, science, technology, and new energy.
El-Sisi added that Egypt is prepared to work with China to deliver benefits to both peoples and contribute to regional development and prosperity.
El-Sisi commended China’s “objective and impartial position” on Middle East issues and said Egypt supports resolving conflicts through political means and building a new regional security architecture.
Following the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents covering Belt and Road cooperation, artificial intelligence, economy and trade, and industrial and supply chain cooperation.
In total, more than 20 agreements were signed in areas including the digital economy, science and technology, education, and transport. The two sides also issued a Joint Statement on Deepening the China-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
At noon, President El-Sisi and First Lady Mrs. Entissar El-Sisi hosted a welcome banquet for President Xi and Madame Peng at Al-Ittihadiya Palace.
