Boakai Breaksground for Sethi Ferro Fabrik Steel Plant, Pledges Government full Support

Monrovia, Liberia – The government of Liberia, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in partnership with the private sector has mark an important turning point in promoting sustainable development as they commission the Duraplast Plastic Recycling Plant and the groundbreaking of the Sethi Ferro Fabrik Steel Plant – Phase II at the Monrovia Industrial Park on Friday, April 17, 2026.

The ceremony was graced by top government officials, development partners, and representatives from the corporate sector.

Speaking at the ground breaking of the Phase II Steel Plant ceremony, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai praised the Sethi Group of Companies for its excellent help toware improving economic activity and directly contributing to the livelihood of Liberians and pledge his support to defend and assist businesses that uphold Liberian law and make significant contributions to the country’s growth.

“From what I see here—the cement business and other activities—this means jobs and income for our people,” he said, acknowledging that “you are creating opportunities not only within your company, but also for others through distribution and related businesses,” he said.

President Boakai encouraged workers to take responsibility for these investments by supporting their expansion and sustainability, “To all of you working here, we encourage you to help this business grow. Sometimes, our practice is to destroy the very thing that sustains us, but we must do better. The stronger this investment becomes, the better it will be for you, your children, and the future of this country.”

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Indian ambassador to Liberia, Manoj Bihari Verma for creating a favorable environment Speaking at the occasion as well, Manoj Bihari Verma, the Indian ambassador to Liberia, thanked the Liberian government for creating a favorable atmosphere for the expansion of the private sector and for improving bilateral ties between India and Liberia.

Ambassador Verma, in addition to praising the Sethi Group of Companies for its consistent support of Liberia’s economic growth, he emphasizes India’s efforts to strengthen its tides with the country through trade, investment, and capacity building.

Mr. Jay Sethi, Managing Director of the Sethi Group of Companies, said that his family has lived in Liberia for more than 50 years noting that, it is more than just a place to do business noting that the company’s transition from commerce to manufacturing as well as its continued contribution to Liberia’s economic development.

Mr. Sethi added that the company employs more than 2,500 people currently and has generated more than 500 indirect jobs in the steel scrap industry, supporting both environmental sustainability and economic activity.
