MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Office of the Presidential Press Secretary at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, has denied claims made in FrontPage Africa’s July 15, 2026 article allerging that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, warning of widespread drug cartel infiltration within the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and forecasting Liberia’s emergence as a “narco-state.”
According to an Executive Mansion release issuesd on Wednesday, the president at no point in time receive any such report referenced by the FrontPage Africa newspaper adding that suggestion that such a document was submitted to the President and ignored is false, misleading, and entirely without factual basis.
The release inform that the publication relies on an unverified document whose authenticity has neither been established nor corroborated by the Office of the President and that presenting such allegations as established without facts has the potential to mislead the public, erode confidence in public institutions, and undermine responsible public discourse.
Furthermore, the public is therefore advised to dismiss and reject these false claims, which appear calculated to misinform citizens and divert attention from the significant efforts being undertaken by this Administration to confront drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
Eliminating illegal narcotics continues to be one of the Boakai Administration’s top national security concerns, as seen by both policy and action. President Boakai has strengthened Liberia’s approach to drug trafficking and substance misuse since taking office.
In order to show openness, responsibility, and his dedication to setting an example for others, the President willingly submitted to a public drug test. As part of a larger initiative to foster honesty and public trust, he also urged government officials to follow like.
President Boakai promptly ordered a comprehensive, expert, and impartial investigation into the recent seizure of nearly 238 kilograms of cocaine worth approximately US$19 million at Roberts International Airport.
Since then, the government has given the ongoing investigation its full support while continuing to work closely with both domestic and foreign law enforcement partners to make sure that everyone involved in the trafficking operation is found and prosecuted.
The Office further encourages responsible journalism grounded in verification, accuracy, and fairness, particularly on matters affecting national security.
