AML Kleber Silva, Pledges Continues Support for Healthcare Services

Yekepa, Nimba County – In an unexpected early-morning visit to Yekepa Hospital, ArcelorMittal, Global Mining Chief Executive Officer, Kleber Silva, commended recent advancements at the concession and promised ongoing support for healthcare programs that would benefit local communities and employees.

“The hospital must be supported to function effectively,” Silva said, underscoring its role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of employees, residents and the wider region.

A highlight of the visit was the recently refurbished female ward, which hospital management said has significantly improved patient comfort and care conditions.

According to Dr. Paul Whesseh, medical director of Yekepa Hospital. the in-house engineering team of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Quality-of-Life Department, under the direction of civil engineer Gabriel Paye, finished the restoration in less than four months,

“The team did an excellent job,” Whesseh said. “I believe Mr. Silva wanted to see firsthand how far we have progressed, and that is why he visited.”

Whesseh went on to say that for urgent infrastructure demands, the company’s internal engineering capacity has proven to be more economical and quicker than outsourcing projects, which can take years to finish.
In order to accommodate the growing demand, the hospital has also hired more doctors in a variety of specializations.

The institution has gradually increased its capacity to offer critical care services since beginning surgical operations in August of last year, he added.

Whesseh pointed out that in order to maintain proper staffing levels and uphold quality of care, there is an increasing demand for additional nurses due to increased surgical activity. In Nimba County, where ArcelorMittal Liberia is a significant player in the mining industry, Yekepa Hospital provides medical care to its workers as well as the local community.
