MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Construction of the two China-funded overpass bridges along the Tubman Boulevard is now about one-third complete, full completion expected in September 2027.
Speaking at a press briefing Thursday, Deputy Minister for Technical Services Prince D. Tambah, Sr informed that the work is advancing steadily which will be a major traffic solution for Monrovia, Sinkor, and Paynesville.
The Deputy Minister spoke on behalf of Public Works Minister Roland Layfette Giddings.
According to Deputy Minister Tambah, the project is 56 of 69 piles drilled, and 11 of 14 pile caps finished, 5 of 14 already erected, 73.4% complete.
He added that more than 265 Liberians are currently employed on the site.
Tambah reported that independent quality tests have recorded a 100% pass rate so far, with no major safety incidents recorded.
The project is fully funded by a grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
Deputy Minister Tsmbah cited some challenges being face including relocating underground utilities, heavy rains, theft of materials, and managing traffic flow around the construction zones.
He added that, to address the issue, the Ministry of Public Works will coordinate with relevant agencies and partners and commended the Liberia National Police for its role in traffic control and securing work areas.
Minister Tambah however thanked the Government and people of China for their continues support to Liberia and urged the public to remain patient as the project draws near completion.
When completed in September 2027 the two overpasses are expected to ease congestion along Tubman Boulevard and improve connectivity between central Monrovia and Paynesville.
