Monrovia, Liberia – In an effor to boost education, President Joseph N. Boakai has expanded the development agenda of his administration and revitalized higher education in agriculture, and youth empowerment in northern Liberia by forming a strategic institutional and financial alliance with Eric W. Wowoh, the founder of Change Agent Network University (CAN-U).
The President demonstrated his commitment by providing the school with US$15,000, US$5,000 to hasten the construction of its administrative building, and US$10,000 to install a solar energy system.
“We are committed to the long-term agreement to support this institution because of its importance to the people it serves,” President Boakai declared.
The collaboration, which is a Strategic Vision for National Transformation, positions CAN University as an expanding hub of opportunity in Lofa County. In order to improve academic capability and professional training, the president has presented proposals for international collaboration with a university in Arizona, USA.
He emphasized expanding technical and vocational education in the region as part of his broader national strategy to support inclusive growth and workforce development. The story of CAN University, “Built by the People, Backed by the Diaspora,” is a prime example of a Liberian concept of participatory nation-building.

Fissibu Town, Zorzor District citizens contributed the campus’s property, demonstrating the community’s dedication to education. Moreover, about 80% of the university’s finance has come from outside sources, including foreign partners and Liberians residing overseas. Additionally, local communities have contributed labor and resources, cementing the close links that bind Liberians together both at home and abroad.
President Boakai pledged to establish a cutting-edge drilled-water system with full pipelines in addition to providing urgent funding, ensuring safe water supply throughout the campus—a critical step toward long-term institutional survival.
The Genesis Farm Project, a 150-acre agricultural project in Wozi Town, Zorzor District, led by Wowoh, is at the center of the collaboration. The farm is expected to set a national standard for food security and agricultural innovation.
The President has also pushed for soil testing to be used as a guide when choosing crops, demonstrating a data-driven approach to maximize productivity and effect.
