MOH Receives New Chinese Medical Team…Honors Outgoing Doctors

Monrovia, Liberia – To enhance healthcare delivery in Liberia, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has welcome the 18th China Medical Team in a ceremony marked by appreciation, diplomacy, and renewed commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Liberia, while honoring the departing 17th team’

The event, held in observance of the 21st anniversary of the re-deployment of the Chinese medical team to Liberia, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two nations in strengthening the country’s health sector.

Making remarks at the ceremony, the Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, emphasized the important contributions of the Chinese government, noting its support in infrastructure development, capacity building, and the supply of essential medical materials.

“We are grateful to the Chinese government for its support,” recalling her personal experience as a practicing doctor. “I benefited from one of the team members at JFK years ago. When she arrived, she did not only provided care but also trained us. I salute the 17th team for their services,” she explained.

Addressing the newly arrived team, she acknowledged the challenges ahead, describing Liberia’s healthcare environment as demanding and encouraged them to remain resilient, assuring the team of the Ministry’s full support.

“The terrain you’re coming into is very difficult. Sometimes it will get lonely,” she inform.

However, Dr. Kpoto expressed appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Amb. Yin Chengwu, for his continued support to the country’s health sector.

For his part, Ambassador Yin described the transition as part of a longstanding bilateral partnership. He commended the outgoing 17th team for completing their mission with distinction and welcomed the 18th team as they continue to build on the collaboration between China and Liberia.
