Following a working visit to the Republic of Turkey, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has returned to Liberia after holding a number of events intended to improve bilateral relationships and advance investment opportunities for the nation.
Speaking upon his homecoming, President Boakai outlined the results of his trip to Turkey, emphasizing that the engagements were intended to draw in investment, increase educational possibilities, and strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations.
He disclosed that the establishment of a Turkish consulate in Liberia and a Liberian diplomatic post in Turkey were among the topics of discussion, along with initiatives to boost investment and provide scholarships for Liberians.
“There were talks around investments, education opportunities for Liberians by acquiring scholarships, and strengthening diplomatic relations through the establishment of a consulate and an embassy,” he said.
He characterized the planned diplomatic presence as a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding prospects for cooperation and economic development between Liberia and Turkey.
Along with emphasizing that the national interest must always come first, the Liberian leader also emphasized the necessity of unity between the legislative and executive institutions. He urged representatives of the two branches of government to cooperate in order to improve Liberia.
President Boakai emphasized that “Liberia is all that matters, and everyone who has come to government must know that Liberia comes first.”
