AML Praise for County Rail Safety Awareness

Buchanan, Grand Bassa – Representative Matthew Joe of District #3 Grand Bassa County has extolled ArcelorMittal Liberia for its ongoing safety awareness in the county.

AML’s Community Safety Awareness Month forms part of the company’s broader commitment to promoting safe behavior along its operational corridors and strengthening partnerships with host communities to protect lives and property.

Remarking at the launch of AML’s Community Safety Awareness in Buchanan, Rep. Joe cautioned residents dwelling along the company’s rail corridor to stay off the railroad tracks due to serious safety risks.

Representative Joe emphasized that the railway is strictly designated for train operations and must not be used for walking, resting, urging that people must take responsibility for their own safety.

“The rail line is not a place for sitting or relaxing, using it for anything other than train movement puts lives at risk,” Rep. Joe warned.

Added that, beyond operational priorities, protecting the lives of citizens living along the corridor is essential as such, residents must remain vigilant and to cooperate with safety initiatives aimed at preventing accidents.

Representative Joe also referenced the Third Amendment to AML’s Mineral Development Agreement with the Government of Liberia, which provides for the creation of approximately 2,000 jobs.

He encouraged the company to prioritize employment opportunities for residents of affected communities, noting that job creation would improve livelihoods while fostering shared responsibility for protecting rail infrastructure.

He warning against unauthorized access to the rail line and pledged the full support of the Grand Bassa County Legislative Caucus for AML’s Community Safety Awareness Month activities.

The event brought together members of the AML workforce, local authorities—including the Liberia National Police Bassa Detachment—Township Commissioner Isaac Williams, cultural performers, Liberian musician Kobazzie, community members, and representatives of the media joined in promoting the safety message.
