MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has called on cabinet ministers to focus on the government ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development amid criticism.
Speaking on Thursday, August 13, 2026 the 23rd cabinet meeting held at the Executive Mansion, the President told the gathering that their sacrifices and teamwork has yield a fruitful progress across the country.
”I like to express thanks and appreciation to all of you for your contribution to what the nation is experiencing. I know that it doesn’t go without your own sacrifices, ” he said.
He extolled the Minister of Finance and team for their work on the mid-year report noting that he should do what best for the country.
“Some of them don’t even care. I don’t mind that, that’s the job you have to do. You don’t have to make everybody understand, but what you do, you do,” the President urged.
On the issues of the current drugs situation, President Boakai warned against distractions and public criticism stressing that they should remain professional in performing their duties.
“Those are their opinions entirely. They should not make you not do what you’re supposed to do,” he started.
President Boakai added that actions are being taken in neighboring countries regarding the drugs and reaffirm his government commitment to eensur Liberia remain “a drug-free country” that respects international laws.
”Our borders, we have to keep secure. We have to make sure that we work with the various teams that working around the border and joint security work to make sure that Liberia is a country that respect the rule of law and discipline,” he said.
“People are working, we are monitoring,” he said, adding that development requires both funding and oversight to ensure money goes to the right place.
President Boakai highlighted ongoing humanitarian support coordinated through government, including the distribution of shoes, clothing, slippers and other essential items to schoolgirls and vulnerable children.
He said nearly ten containers of goods have entered the country, with donations going to the Gender Ministry, Ministry of Education, police and other entities.
“These are items that are given to the country through some arrangement… if they were not there, you will have to put money. The Gender Ministry is expected to present a report on the distribution,” he said.
The Liberian leader however announced that the government has reached a decision and approved the reshuffling” of port operations, with a new structure that will separate the seaport from the airport noting that proper systems will clarify roles and improve efficiency.
President Boakai in conclusion, urged ministers to show support for the government achievements and to remain focused amid criticism.
“People look for faults… We can’t be faultless, but we can do our best to make sure that we do the right thing,” he said.
The meeting which was chaired by the President is the 23rd Cabinet Meeting, with Cabinet reviewing key national priorities, assessing progress and emerging challenges, and advancing coordinated actions to strengthen evidence-based governance, social protection, and to deliver an important services to the Liberian people.
