Liberia’s Eye African Union Peace and Security Council Seat

Liberia’s candidacy for the AU body has been announced by Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Affairs.

Dr. Nyei stated on Tuesday during the Ministry of Information press briefing that the election will take place next week during the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union, which is set for February 11–12 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’

He acknowledged that Liberia is in competition with other West African nations for the seat, but he expressed optimism that the nation’s persistent diplomatic efforts and campaigning will result in a favorable outcome.

Additionally, he emphasized the contribution of the minister of foreign affairs, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, stating that her interactions with other African nations regarding Liberia’s candidacy had been positive.

Dr. Nyei also informed that the Liberia-European Union Business Forum will take place in Brussels shortly. He revealed that about fifty Liberian entrepreneurs are anticipated to attend the two-day event, which will feature private sector talks, business presentations, and networking opportunities with European businesses.

The Liberia Investment Commission, the European Union, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborated to create the forum. According to Dr. Nyei, the interaction is in line with the Ministry’s Economic Diplomacy Agenda, which aims to fortify Liberia’s economy through global collaborations.
